My name is Henry. I am 14 years old and I have non verbal autism. This is my blog. I spell my posts out on an A-Z letter board and my mom takes down my words on paper, then types them up for me here. Everything posted here is my exact words unless it’s noted otherwise.
My main idea for this blog is to inform others of what being a non verbal autistic is like, and to help end negativity about autism.

My name is Mr. Hill. I will be your Biology teacher for this school year at Waukesha North. I am very excited to learn more about you, work with you, learn with you, and explore Biology with you. I am very impressed with your blog and your ability to communicate your thoughts and feelings. You write well above your grade level. Keep up the hard work and you will do great things this year!
By the way, do you communicate through RPM on your letter board? I worked with a student who had autism last year and was able to learn how to communicate through RPM.

Hello Henry,
I just thought I’d take the time to leave you a note about how important your blog is to the autistic community. As an autistic adult, your words are a welcome edition to the movement to make respect and acceptance the focus of autism advocacy.
You are obviously academically gifted. At first, people thought that I, too, was unfit for the neurotypical (non-autistic) world. I was–and sometimes I still am–called lazy, rude, unsympathetic, and even worthless. It was only when I learned that I am autistic that I realized that none of these things are true. I returned to college–I’d flunked out two times previously–and excelled. I graduated with summa cum laude with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in English and Honors Studies. I am currently one semester away from being granted an M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition, and I have a 4.0 GPA. I don’t tell you these things to brag, but I tell you knowing that you, too, can accomplish great things–I am sure you know that, but a little encouragement and camaraderie can go a long way . I’ve never been ashamed of my autism; it’s made me the person that I am today.
I hope that one day you will join me. You are a terrific, gifted writer. Although I am the first person at my Writing Center at Texas State University to have been diagnosed with autism, I am not the last. We currently have three autistic tutors, and we’ve had a number of disabled tutors and staff. Many of us have been promoted to positions of authority. Maybe one day, you might join us–you certainly have the writing talent!

Hi Henry, My son is 16 and nonverbal. The value that you and other Autistic advocates bring to the parent community is invaluable. Currently, I am an exception, because I’ve learned from people such as yourself the value of presuming competence and continuing to challenge my son. But, as more voices like yours are heard, the more “Warrior Autism Parents” will have their eyes opened to the potential of their child, if supported and encouraged and not “cured’.
